Kyushu Travels: Part 8/8, Kumamoto

Finishing our travels in Kumamoto seemed only fitting for our first trip to Kyushu. We got to see the castle, learn about it’s history, grab a load of omiyage for friends, Sams co-workers and my students as well as some little treats for us too. Two of our favourite souvenirs that are famous in the area are: Homare no Jindaiko (soft rice cake wrapped in red bean paste) and Matsukaze (Japan’s thinnest sweet, made from poppy seeds and beet sugar). I took a picture of the Matsukaze, but only got a picture of the Homare no jindarko’s box, because they were just that good!
