We had a brief detour into Mie prefecture whilst we were staying in Aichi with our friend. We went to an illuminated flower garden called Nabana no sato. It was much bigger than I expected, with many different zones and a beautiful lake and river in the centre. We even got to stop by and have a foot spa, when our legs got tired. Luckily, our friend had been there before so knew to bring us little towels for our feet, however I clearly didn’t think it through that day and thought it was fine to wear tights. Let me tell you, taking them off in a public place in Japan was like a covert operation. I thought I’d gotten away with it until the girls to the right of us couldn’t stop staring at me afterwards. It made us laugh at least and the foot spa was well worth it.
Afterwards, we went to watch the light show they had at the time. I think they change it up every month or season, but each one lasts around 5-10 minutes and consists of different arrangements of lights put to music. Almost like some sort of film. The one we watched seemed to take us around the world, to the Taj Mahal and to the pyramids of Egypt and beyond. It was magical. There is really no other word to describe it.
Although this year across Japan the sakura blooms were delayed, somehow we were blessed whilst in Mie with many cherry blossoms. With the illumination set-up it was really special. Honestly, pictures do not do it justice. However, I will post what pictures I did get below so at least you can get a vibe for how it was.
